Dr Fishman served as Principal Investigator for NCHRP Project 24-28 "LRFD Metal Loss and Service-Life Strength Reduction Factors for Metal Reinforced Systems." This research involved performance monitoring, compilation of a performance database, reliability analyses, and calibrations of resistance factors considering metal loss and remaining tensile strength of earth reinforcements as variables. The National Academy of Sciences just published NCHRP Report 675 describing the results, conclusions and recommendations from this recently completed four-year research effort. The report explores the development of metal loss models for metal reinforced systems that are compatible with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
